Read More	Married Alwilda Frances Lasley on 04 Jun 1867 in Monroe County, Missouri. Samuel V. Saunders Samuel V. Saunders, one of the best known men of this vicinity passed away at the New Monroe Hotel at Monroe City Tuesday morning at 2 o'clock, from the effects of a stroke of paralysis which he suffered on Monday. He bad been in poor health for some time and on Christmas Day went to the City that he might be near physician, there being none at this place and was taken worse soon after his arrival and Monday night he suffered the fatal stroke from which he never rallied. His son Harry, and daughter Mrs. J. Weldon Hardest y and husband were called to his bedside and were with him when the end came. Samuel Valentine Saunders, was born on December 12th, 1839 [sic], in Monroe county, Missouri, on the Wm. Saunders farm, south of Lakeain, and die at Monroe City, Dec. 31st, 1918, at the age of 89 years and 19 days. He was the son of Addison and Lucy Ann Cox Saunders. He was the third child of ten children, five boys and five girls. He was united in marriage to Miss Alwilda Lasley, of St Albans, West Virginia, on June 4th, 1867, to this union were born eight children, three of whom William Ivy, Alberta J., and an infant son having proceeded him to the great beyond. His wife having passed away 15 years ago. Mr. Saunders was an honorable man in the highest sense that word implies. He was a gentlemen of the old school and to man, woman or child, he always extended a cordial greeting and to friend and neighbors he was ever ready to lend assistance. To his family he was always kind and thoughtful and his home was an ideal one, old time hospitality being showered upon all who entered his home and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends. His remains were brought here Wednesday morning and taken to the Traveler's Home hotel and funeral services were held from the Methodist church that afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. R. T. Colborn, of Paris, after which his remains were laid to their final resting place beside his wife in the Cox cemetery south of town. He leaves to mourn his departure, five children, Mrs. J Weldon Hardesty and Harry of south of town, Mrs. Fred Ragsdale of Merced, Cal., Samuel V., of Stockton, Calif., and Earl, of Seattle, Wash., also eight grand-children and four brothers, John, of Merced, Calif., Wm. H., of Lakenan, Milton and Abby, of Hunnewell, besides many other relatives and friends. To the bereaved is extended the sympathy of the community. Saunders, who lived about three miles southwest of Hunnewell, died in Monroe City Monday of this week. He was afflicted with diabetes and went to Monroe City Friday for treatment. Shortly after reaching there he suffered a paralytic stroke from which he never rallied. He was about 80 years old and was born near Lakenan, where he grew to manhood. His wife passed away about ten years ago. He leaves two daughters, Mrs. Fred Ragsdale, of Merced California, and Mrs. Weldon Hardesty south of Hunnewell, three sons, Samuel of Seattle Wash., Earl of Los Angeles, California and Harry, at home, four brothers W. H. Saunders, near Lakenan, Mit A. of Kansas City, John W. of Merced, Calif., and Abbie, at home. He was both cousin and uncle to Mrs. Willie Blackburn and Mrs. W. A. Vance, of this city. Funeral services were held at Hunnewell, Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Mr. Colburn, and the remains were laid to rest in the Cox burial grounds a few miles southwest of Hunnewell.
