Description	:	Mary Amanda Miller was born Feb. 9, 1867 in Schuyler County, Illinois. She passed from this life May 3, 1944 at the age of 77 years, two months and 24 days. The first fifteen years of her life were spent in Illinois, then she came with her parents to Iowa and lived with them on a farm near Corydon. To this union four children were born: ... Read More	Mary Amanda Miller was born Feb. 9, 1867 in Schuyler County, Illinois. She passed from this life May 3, 1944 at the age of 77 years, two months and 24 days. The first fifteen years of her life were spent in Illinois, then she came with her parents to Iowa and lived with them on a farm near Corydon. The remainder of her life has been spent in Iowa with the exception of a short residence in Kansas. She was united in marriage to Charles Boyce Feb. 13, 1887. To this union four children were born: Homer of Promise City; Hazel, now Mrs. Pearl McCullough of Leon; Howard of Humeston and Harry of Corydon. Mrs. Boyce united with the Methodist Church in early life and since that time it has been her desire to do right. Recently, she made the remark, "I do not want to do anything that is wrong." She was a woman with a very kind heart and a tender sympathy for anyone in distress. She seemed to enjoy everything, all the little homely tasks about the home were a joy to her. Her fingers were never idle and drudgery was not a word in her vocabulary. She was never happier than when she was doing something for one of her children or grandchildren. Each great-grandchild had a large place in her heart. She never sent anyone hungry from her door. She was never too busy for callers. Each friend and neighbor was greeted with a smile and sent away with a smile. She will be missed by all who have felt the touch of her friendly cheer. A severe heart attack brought her earthly life to a close. Mrs. Boyce had two brothers and six sisters. One brother, Frank Miller, a very ardent Christian man, Was killed in Kansas City, April, 1942. She has four sisters living: Mrs. Jasper B. Melvin, Corydon; Mrs. Martha Pruett, Allerton; Mrs. Della Barrickman, Boulder, Colorado and Mrs. Burd Barrickman, Denver, Colorado. Those who mourn the passing of this sister are her husband, four children, eleven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, other relatives, her neighbors and very many friends. Funeral services were conducted at the house May 7 in Allerton where Mr. and Mrs. Boyce have lived for the past six years and also in the Methodist Church at Humeston, by Mrs. Valentine Hites. Pallbearers were M. G. Carter, Ray H. Aten, Geo. R. Garton, Ira Smith, Arthur Adams and Wm. Elder. Interment was in Green Bay Cemetery. Appropriate hymns were sung by a quartet composed of Mrs. M. C. Shupe, Helen Richard, Wayne Hutchinson and W. C. Morford with Mrs. Grace Gunzenhauser as pianist. Humeston New Era, May 10, 1944, Humeston, Iowa
