When she was quite young her mother died, but the father kept the children together, and endeavored to rear them in the Christian faith, giving them the privilege that every child should have, that of attending a place of worship on the Sabbath day, thus when a child, she was confirmed in the German Lutheran Church, which was the faith of her choice to the end. On September 13, 1874, she was united in marriage to Mr. Henry Koehler, and to this union were born two sons and two daughters, Dora, who died in infancy; Sophia, who died March 20, 1925; and two sons, Henry and Louis, who lived with their mother, and are now left to mourn the loss of a kind and devoted mother. On February 25, 1886, Mr. and Mrs. Koehler moved from Iowa to their farm near Edgar, Nebraska, where they resided the rest of their days on earth. Mr. Koehler preceded his wife to the Great Beyond May 20, 1926. Mrs. Koehler has been an invalid for about ten years, but bore her affliction without complaint knowing that "All things work together for good to them that love God". She was seriously ill for only a week, and the end came on February 26, 1929, at the age of 71 years, 5 months and 26 days. Mrs. Koehler, though denied the privilege of meeting with God's people on the Sabbath, because of ill health, she made use of the radio to bring her the message of God. This was her chief delight and comfort, and when the time came for the sacred program on Sabbath morning, she left her work, and placed herself in the attitude of worship, that her soul may be refreshed and fed with the bread of life. Besides her two sons, she leaves to mourn her departure, one brother, Fred Lehms, of Mt Pelier (sic), Iowa. Funeral services were held at the home Friday afternoon, March 1, Rev Thos S. Hughes officiating. The music was furnished by the Presbyterian quartette, Messrs, C. S. Voorhees, J. M. McGhie, J. G. Walley and Robt Olseene. The floral offering was beautiful which spoke of the high esteem in which the departed was held among her friends. The pall bearers were Messrs, Carl Mills, Barney Kollman, Carlos Bascom, William Nicholls, Andy Hoffman and Albert Werner. Interment was made in the Edgar Cemetery.
