Mrs. Blanchard was born in the state of Michigan, December 28, 1837, and came to Buchanan county when but a young girl, retaining her residence in that county until about fifteen years ago, when she and her family took up their residence in Masonville, where the family has since resided. Read More	--------------------------------------- Mrs. Amelia (Nelson) Blanchard, a resident of this section of the state for nearly seventy years, passed away at her home in Masonville on Monday, April 14, 1913, at the advanced age of 75 years, 3 months and 16 days. Mrs. Blanchard was born in the state of Michigan, December 28, 1837, and came to Buchanan county when but a young girl, retaining her residence in that county until about fifteen years ago, when she and her family took up their residence in Masonville, where the family has since resided. To Mr. and Mrs. Blanchard were born five sons. Their first child passed away in infancy, and two of their sons - Howard Blanchard and Merrit Blanchard - have died in recent years. The sons left to mourn the death of this honored pioneer woman are Clarence and Delbert both of whom reside at Masonville. Her husband, Samuel Blanchard, passed away June 22, 1904. Funeral services were conducted this afternoon from the Wesleyan Methodist Episcopal church of Masonville, Rev. Mr. Hoover, pastor of the Wesleyan church at Dundee, conducted the services. Interment was made in the cemetery near this city. In the death of Mrs. Blanchard the community loses a woman whose life has been an inspiration for good to everyone who had the privilege of forming an intimate acquaintance with her. She was a devout and conscientious member of the Wesleyan Methodist Episcopal church, giving generously of her time and talents to the upbuilding of that organization. Coming to this part of Iowa when the country was sparcely settled she saw much of the hardships endured by the pioneer settlers. To the two sons she leaves a rich heritage, which they will cherish in the years to come. The sympathy of a host of friends goes out to the sons in the death of a beloved mother.
