From The Scotia Register, Dec 13, 1928, P. 1, transcribed by Linda Berney: Amos Henke Funeral In Scotia Today - Amos Henke was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, March 5th, 1864 and passed away at North Platte last Saturday, Dec. 8th at the age of 64 years 9 months and 3 days. He was left an orphan when a small boy and he had to shift for himself from that time. He lived with friends and relatives until he was about 18 years of age, when he came to Greeley County and settled near Scotia where a little later he was married to Amelia Combs, July 2nd, 1888. He lived here in this community and raised a family of six children. He was of a quiet firm but kind disposition. About 7 years ago he and his family moved to Stapleton, Nebr., where their home is at the present time. He seemed to be of pretty good health and was doing his regular work when he was seized with a stroke of apoplexy and lived but a few hours. He is survived by his wife, and six children, Mrs. Sadie [sic, should be Anna] Simpson of Cotesfield, Mrs. Hanna Fayles of Wayland, Nebr.[sic, should be Michigan], Miss Lillian Henke who lives at home, Charles Henke of Stapleton and Frank Henke and Mrs. V. Vrooman of Scotia. He also leaves two sisters and 20 grandchildren. The funeral service was held at the Methodist Church today with Mr. Harry Miller and Rev. G. A. Randall in charge. Interment was made in the Scotia Cemetery.
