He was born in Sweden December 1858 and had come to the United States as a young man. The family lived in Wisconsin about fourteen years before coming to settle in Hadlock. Suffering from illness due to old age, August Hammer, age 75, resident of the Hadlock district for more than 25 years was taken by death Friday, October 6. He was born in Sweden December 1858 and had come to the United States as a young man. The family lived in Wisconsin about fourteen years before coming to settle in Hadlock. During the residence at Hadlock Mr. Hammer had worked most of the time at the mill at Port Ludlow and was active in this work until about a month ago when his final illness caused his retirement from work. There are left to mourn him his widow, twelve children, seven daughters and five sons, and ten grandchildren. He was well and favorably known among a large number of friends who will miss his passing. Funeral services were conducted Sunday from the family home by Rev. Walter B. Bell. Cremation followed Monday in Seattle through the Quanell Funeral Service in Port Townsend.
