FEB 1894--KILLED IN OKLAHOMA--James Denny, who went to Oklahoma several weeks ago to see his father, who had been shot and seriously wounded, arrived home last Wednesday. His father, Andrew Jackson Denny, was born in Madison County, Illinois, where he lived all his life until six years ago last July when he moved to Kansas, and located on the farm occupied by Wm. Booth, one mile east of town. He had six children, three living near here, and three in Oklahoma. One year ago last December he got the Oklahoma fever and selling out here, moved there, buying a claim near Okarche, Oklahoma. Four weeks ago last Sunday he became involved in a quarrel with one of his neighbors, named H.H. Laney, over some hay, and during the dispute Laney shot him in the right leg. The ball ranged downward and came out at the knee cap. The doctors wanted to amputate the leg, but he would not let them, until Thursday when it was done, but it was then too late to save him, and Saturday he died. He was 61 years and 7 months old. His remains were shipped here and Monday were buried in Fairview Cemetery east of town. His assailant was caught and id now in jail. The old gentleman was a peaceable man, and was well liked here. His untimely end was a sad one, and his family have the sympathy of a large number of friends, who have known them for many years.
