Description	:	Andrew Klahn, 80, a resident of Clinton Co. for 71 years, died Thursday morning, April 18, 1940, at 3 o'clock, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Richard Parr, in Clinton, where he had been visiting for the past three weeks. He had been quite ill this winter, but waited until he was feeling much better before he decided on the visit. He was born Jan. 29, 1860, in Moline, Ill., and came with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hans Klahn, to a farm 4 miles north of Wheatland, on Jan. 27, 1861. He worked on the farm and attended school in Toronto until he was 16 years of age, and then devoted all his time to work on the farm. On Feb. 13, 1882, he was united in marriage to Miss Emma Bentrott by Squire Jerome Dutton at Wheatland and they began their married life here in Wheatland. Mr. Klahn was employed for 37 years with the Chicago & North Western railroad, serving the last 26 years of that time as section foreman, and retiring in 1927 to spend his remaining years with his life mate. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary eight years ago, and their 54th anniversary, Mrs. Klahn passing away on Jan. 9, 1939, since which time his daughter, Dora, has been his sole companion. He was a charter member of the Wheatland Volunteer Fire Co., and after years of service, was added to the roll of honorary members. His life in this community was one that built up a wide circle of friends, and his home life was exemplary, as he was never happier than when surrounded by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Two sons, Herman and Herbert, and his wife preceded him in death. Funeral services were held at the home here Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock with Rev. Geo. w. Bryant of Cedar Rapids officiating.
