Description	:	Andrew Sewell, son of Abner and Mary Sewell, was born in Harrison county, Ohio, Aug. 28, 1823, and died at his late home in Angola, Ind., Jan. 29, 1909, aged 85 years, 5 months and 1 day. He was the eldest of a family of nine children of which four brothers still survive, one brother and one sister having preceded him. Read More	Andrew Sewell, son of Abner and Mary Sewell, was born in Harrison county, Ohio, Aug. 28, 1823, and died at his late home in Angola, Ind., Jan. 29, 1909, aged 85 years, 5 months and 1 day. He was the eldest of a family of nine children of which four brothers still survive, one brother and one sister having preceded him. When a child his parents moved to Tuscarawas county, Ohio, where he grew to manhood and there married Priscilla Crago, who died May 22, 1860. To this union were born ten children of whom survive, Abner, Mrs. Elizabeth Weir and Mrs. Melvina Sweet, of Hamilton, Ind., and Newton W., of Angola. He was one of the pioneers of Defiance county, Ohio, moving there in 1840, when it was yet a wilderness. Here he cleared a tract of land and made a home for himself and family. In 1861 he again united in marriage with Sarah M. Crago, a sister of his first wife. To this union were born ten children, G. B., Mrs. Ellie Johnson and Mrs. Bertha Jarrard, of Angola, and Asa A. and Albert E., of Pleasant Lake, are still living. He moved to Hamiltion, Ind., in 1865, buying the mill property and engaging in that business until 1899, when he moved to Angola where he has since resided. He united with the Methodist Episcopal church at Hamilton in 1879 and for twenty years was one of its faithful and earnest workers. After moving to Angola he became a member of the church at that place. The funeral services were held in the Methodist church at Hamilton, Sunday, Jan. 31, 1909, conducted by its pastor, Rev. Morrison, after which his body was laid to rest in the cemetery at that place. Thus ended a long and useful life. The widow and children mourn the loss of a kind and devoted husband and father. He passed peacefully to his rest "sustained and soothed by an unfaltering trust; approached his grave like one who wraps the drapery of his couch about him, and lies down to pleasant dreams." STEUBEN REPUBLICAN February 3, 1909 _________________________________________________________ Andrew Sewell was born in Harrison County, Ohio, Aug. 20, 1823, a son of Abner and Mary Sewell, his father a native of Maryland, and his mother of Ohio. When he was a child his parents moved to Tucarawas County, Ohio, where he was reared, and there married, Dec., 12, 1844, Priscilla Crago, a native of Harrison County, born March 6, 1827. They moved to Defiance County, Ohio, where he followed farming till 1868, when he located in Steuben County, Ind., buying the mill property of Samuel Husselman. This property he has greatly improved, expending in the past two years about $4,000. He has a good custom trade, which is constantly increasing. He is one of the best citizens of the village of Hamilton, and has by his upright dealing won the confidence and esteem of the business circles. Mrs. Sewell died May 22, 1960. Their family consisted of ten children -Mrs. Mary Ann Steitsmith [deceased], Abner, Mrs. Sarah E. Weir, Isaac N., Mrs. Melvina Sweet, Nancy, Rebecca [died aged three years], Solomon [died aged nineteen years] James H. and Mrs. Priscilla Kepler Jan. 31, 1861, Mr. Sewell married Sarah M. Crago, a sister of his first wife, a native of Harrison County, Ohio, born May 5 1835. To them have been born ten children - Rosa, Green B., Andrew F. [died aged thirteen], Julia O. [died aged four years], Charles [died aged thirteen years], Lillie May, Asa M., Bertha, Albert E. and Edwin L. [died in infancy]. Mr. and Mrs. Sewell are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
