Read More	Southwest Hill next to Hiram MRS HIRAM SWEET DIES Passed Away At The Home Of Her Son, Glen Sweet, Thursday. Mrs Hiram SWEET one of the pioneer residents of this community passed away at the home of her son, Glen, on Thursday afternoon following a stroke which she suffered a few days previous. The deceased was one of the early settlers of this community having come here in 1873 with her husband to make their home. She was known and loved by everyone in the community with whom she had formed an acquaintance. In Memoriam "It is not death to die." On the afternoon of April 24, 1930 at the home of her son in Hamilton Indiana the beautiful life of Melvin Sweet came to a close, to enter a well earned happiness in the new life beyond. The span of her life was 78 years 7 months and 23 days. Melvina Sewell, was born in Defiance County Ohio September 2, 1851. She was the daughter of Andrew and Priscilla Sewell. She grew to woman-hood in this pioneer country and on March 6th, 1870, she was married to Hiram Sweet. Three years later they came to Hamilton Steuben county Indiana to make their home. "For 55 years they labored and loved together going step by step with absolute confidence one in the other." To this union was born three children, Ora O, Laura B who died in childhood, and Glen O. In 1883 under the pastorate of Rev JG Slusser she with her loved companion confessed faith in Jesus Christ and together united with the Methoodist Episcopal church and through the long after years ever remained faithful to the church and it's ideals. Today the voice of the Lord speaking through the church: "I am the Resurrection and the Life, He that believeth in Me though he were dead yet shall he live. Blessed are they that mourn for they shall be comforted. Let not your heart be troubled." These are blessed assurances that His tender mercy and loving kindness continue for ever. We know not where His islands lie, Their fronded palms in the air;We only know we cannot drift beyond His love and care. In 1925 her life was saddened by the death of her companion who quietly slipped away into the better country where she has now entered to enjoy the happiness in the new life beyond. She leaves to mourn her passing one daughter, Mrs Chas Oberlin and one son, Glen O Sweet both of Hamilton Indiana; eight grand-children; twelve great-grand-children; one brother, Isaac Newton Sewell of Angola Indiana; two half-sisters Mrs WL Jarrard of Angola, and Mrs Lilly Bulloock of Charlotte Michigan; three half-brothers, GB Sewell of Hamilton Indiana, Asa W Sewell and Albert Swell both of Pleasant Lake Indiana; nephews and nieces and many friends. She held membership in the Methodist Episcopal church and the Fraternal Order of Pythian Sisters. Sunset and evening star And one clear call for me And may there be no moaning of the bar When I put out to sea. Twilight and evening bells And after that the dark And may there be no sadnees of farwell When I embark. For though from out of our bourned and time and place The flood may bear me far I hope to see my Pilot face to face When I have crossed the bar. Funeral services were held from the home of her son, Glen Sweet, of Hamilton at 2:oo o'clock on Monday afternoon April 28 conducted by Rev Clarence Ferris Pastor of the Methodist church.
