Coffield was born in Ottawa county, Kansas, on the family homestead northeast of Ada, August 25, 1877. She always lived within the neighborhood of her birthplace, until about three years ago when the family came to reside in Ada. On June 7, 1905, she was united in marriage with Charles H. Cook, of the same neighborhood and a former school mate. To this marriage was born three children, two of whom died at birth, one Faye, now six years old, survives her. Mrs. Cook was a devout believer in spiritual realities, having united with the Presbyterian church at the age of 19, and remained a member of that denomination until 3 years ago when, on coming to Ada, she became a member of the Methodist church. Death came to her right in the bloom of life, ten days after the birth and death of her only son, on Wednesday, March 22, 1916 at 12 o'clock. She had struggled long with death, and like a heroine too, during which time her spiritual life triumphed. Her motto in suffering, was that on a card on the wall of her bed room, "I will trust and be not afraid," Isa. 12:2. She repeated it often, and when she could not speak pointed to it. Fearless and triumphant, she was of God's nobility, and passed away a conscientious and sweet mother. Her life was lived in the midst of her childhood acquaintances, and was highly respected, and much esteemed. She leaves to mourn her untimely departure, her husband, her daughter, an aged father, one sister, other relatives and a host of friends. Her mother preceded her to the other world by six years. The funeral services were conducted by her pastor, Rev. J.M. Newton, assisted by Rev. McKee and from the Baptist church, Sunday 2 p.m. where a great congregation of friends, many from her old neighborhood assembled. After which she was laid to rest in the Ada Cemetery.
