Anita Marie Seguin was born on August 12, 1925, in Elk Point, South Dakota, the daughter of George E. and Mary A. (Kyte) Seguin. She graduated from Elk Point High School in 1943. Anita then earned a degree as a registered nurse from McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls as part of the Nurse Cadet Corps. On October 18, 1948, Anita and John Wainwright Kilpatrick were united in marriage at St. Joseph's Church in Elk Point. They lived in Long Beach, California, and Portland, Connecticut, before moving to Le Mars in 1958. They moved to Jupiter, Florida in 1984. Anita thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of nursing and had a varied career. She worked as a private-duty nurse in hospitals, the emergency room, psychiatric facilities, and nursing homes. She was a school nurse at Le Mars Community Schools and Gehlen Catholic Schools. Anita earned her EMT certificate and worked on the Le Mars ambulance team. She also volunteered for the hospital auxiliary and hospice. Anita was dedicated to her family, faith, and friends. She enjoyed people, especially children, and had many friends across the country. She loved nursing, laughing, dancing, and helping others. Anita will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Julie Kilpatrick (Andrew Jenks) of Stillwater, MN and Amy Kilpatrick (Richard Bales) of Cedar Rapids; a son, Dan Kilpatrick of Lake Park, FL; grandson, John Heselton; step-grandson Tony Jenks; step-granddaughter, Katie Bales; special step-granddaughter, Sara Raue and her children Kaiden and Kenton Bailey; a sister, Marilyn Siebens of Sequim, WA; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Helen Anderson, Dolores Vipond, and Howard Seguin. The family wishes to express its sincere gratitude to the entire staff at Higley Mansion Care Center and to staff and volunteers of the Hospice of Mercy.
