He was born in West Virginia to Andrew Criswell and Mary Jane (Lefevre) Criswell. In the 1870 U.S. Census, William was living in Grant, Jefferson County, West Virginia, with his parents. In the 1900 U.S. Census, William was living in Paw Paw, Morgan County, West Virginia. His son, William, Jr., was living with him. William says he is married, but Louisa is not living with them. William died and was buried in Largent, Morgan County, West Virginia. He was a widower at the time of his death. Louisa and William's son, William Henry Criswell, Jr. (9 Oct 1855 - 9 June 1959), is #80488498.
