She died in the Bailey sanitarium in Lincoln, where she had been receiving treatment for illness caused by grief over the loss of her husband. Prior to her stay in the Lincoln sanitarium she had been in St. Joseph's hospital in Omaha. Upon receiving news of the death of their mother, Edward, Frank and James Kirby went to Lincoln Thursday morning and brought the body to David City for burial. Funeral services were held Saturday morning at 9:30 o'clock in St. Mary's Catholic church. Rev. Father Boll, pastor of St. Mary's church, conducted the services. St. Mary's choir sang several selections. The pallbearers were William Bateson, Joseph Brochtrup, E.J. Dworak, W.F. Delaney, Thomas Fox of Omaha and Daniel Gould of Ulysses. Burial was in St. Mary's cemetery. Mrs. Kirby had been a resident of Butler county for nearly 30 years. The Kirby family came to Nebraska in 1885 and for 20 years lived on a farm in Center township. Eight years ago they moved to David City. Mrs. Kirby's girlhood days were spent in Illinois, her parents moving to Freeport, Ill., from New York state when she was a child. Her marriage to James Kirby took place in 1873 in Bloomington, Ill. New York City was where Mrs. Kirby was born on April 26, 1853. At time of her death she was nearly 61 years of age. Her maiden name was Anna Bergin. She was of Irish descent. Three sons, Edward and Frank Kirby of David City and James Kirby of Garrison, survive Mrs. Kirby. One of the most highly respected citizens of David City, Mrs. Kirby's death is mourned by many warm friends. She was ever a devoted mother and a faithful wife. ANNA KIRBY A wave of sadness was spread over this community last Thursday wehn word came that Mrs. Anna Kirby had died at the College View sanitarium in Lincoln, where she had gone for rest and treatment. Mrs. Anna Kirby was born in New York, April 26, 1853. She was married to James Kirby in Bloomington, Illinois, in 1873. With Mr. Kirby she moved to Nebraska and to Butler County in 1885, and settled on a farm in Center township where they resided until about nine years ago when they moved to David City. Her husband, James Kirby, passed to the great beyond on last November, his death being a great shock to Mrs. Kirby which she could not succeed in overcoming. She grieved continually for husband and her health began to fail to such an extent that her sons thought it best to get her away from home scenes for a time with hope that she might recover. In December she consented to go to Omaha where she remained for eight weeks, then not getting the benefit expected she was taken to College View sanitarium in Lincoln, but to no avail. She failed continually owing to her great grief, seemingly unable to throw off, even for a time, her great love and affection for her husband, and on Thursday morning, February 26, she passed away to join her husband in the other world. She leaves three devoted sons, James, Frank and Edward, all of whom reside in and near David City. During her life, Mrs. Kirby was a devoted wife and mother, her first thought always being for those she loved. She was a good neighbor and a true friend. She was a member of the Catholic church and a true conscientiious christian woman. The body was brought to David City Thursday evening and funeral services held in St. Mary's church at 9:30 o'clock Saturday morning, Father Gerard Boll, conducting them. The body was laid away in its last resting place in the Catholic cemetery beside that of her husband.
