Kirby, aged 23 years and 9 months. The cause of death was an inflamation of the bladder, superinduced by going to work on a farm direct from the school room, and getting over-heated in the field. Drs. Englehard and Lester performed a surgical operation on the deceased last week, but were not very hopeful of his recovery, which fact was responsible for the report of his death being circulated in town last Saturday. William Kirby was one of the most popular young men in Center township. He was bright, energetic and social, a great favorite among the young people. He was well educated - being one of our thorough up-to-date teachers, and bade fair to grow into a most noble manhood. Deceased was a son of James Kirby and wife of Center, people well known and highly esteemed by a large circle of friends in all parts of the country, and the departure of this promising young man to that unknown country from whence no traveler ever returns, will be truly mourned by his young companions, and sorrow among the elders, that he was cut down when his usefulness had just begun. The PRESS sympathizes with the stricken parents in this, the loss of a noble son. The funeral services will be held in St. Francis Catholic church in Center, at 9:30 tomorrow morning. The remains will then be brought to the Catholic Cemetery, south of town for interment. `````````` People's Banner (David City, Nebr.), July 13, 1899, p. 5, col. 4 Wm. Kirby, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Kirby, of Center township, died Thursday evening of last week, about 7 o'clock. The funeral services were held Saturday at 9 a.m., at the Catholic church in Center, Rev. Father Roche preaching the funeral sermon. Remains were interred in the David City parish cemetery. Deceased was a young man twenty-two years of age, possessed of sterling qualities and exemplary habits and one of Butler county's promising young school teachers. He was sick but a short time. Inflammation of the bladder set in from which cause a surgical operation was performed by Drs. Lester and Englehart, Wednesday June 28th. His untimely death was a shock to his relatives and many young admiring friends. The funeral was largely attended by sympathizing friends, there being more than one hundred teams in the procession. Quite a large number were in attendance from David City. The relatives have the heartfelt sympathy of their many friends in their sad bereavement. ____ Card of Thanks.
