Read More	The Nelson Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, July 28, 1949 Anna Seefeld, daughter of Ludwig and Wilhelmina Seefeld, was born September 12, 1861, in Chroinchen, Germany, and passed away in her home on east Fourth street, Nelson, Nebraska, July 23, 1949, at the age of 87 years, 10 months and 11 days. She was the last of a family of eight children. She came to the United States with her parents, Nov. 2, 1867. They settled at Kewanee, Illinois, where she grew to womanhood and where she was confirmed in the St. Paul Lutheran Church. She remained in that faith until the close of her life. February 14, 1884, she was united in marriage with Augustus Statz. The young couple came to Seward, Nebr., where they made their home for two years. In 1886 they homesteaded in Chase County, Nebraska, and lived there through the pioneer days in that region. To this union ten children were born. (William Statz, deceased.) The nine living are Mrs. Minnie Manthe of Kewanee, Ills., Carl Statz, Imperial, Nebr.; Louis Statz, Anderson, Mo.; Nellie Drake, Republican City, Neb.; Fred Statz, Salinas, Calif.; Lena Conner, Nelson, Neb.; John Statz, Sutton, Neb.; Lillie Filer (sic), Kimball, Neb., and Ted Statz, Goodman, Missouri. In 1905 they moved with their family to Nuckolls County, Nebraska, where they made their home on a farm five miles north of Nelson. They moved into Nelson in 1921. She was preceded in death by her husband on April 19, 1936, one son, William who died July 26, 1938, two grandsons, Wendell Statz and Keith Childers, and one great grandchild. She has been a constant sufferer for the past two years, having sustained a fractured hip from the effects of which she never fully recovered. Grandma Statz, as she was known, was a faithful wife and mother, interested in her home and community. She was a regular reader of her Bible and found much comfort and help thereby for daily living. She leaves to mourn her passing her nine children and their families, 32 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Nelson Methodist church (sic), with Rev. E.B. Stewart officiating. Service music was provided by Mrs. A.B. Ferebee, Mrs. Allen Kruse and Ralph Mumma, with Mrs. Anna Mumma at the piano. The pallbearers, all grandsons, were: Everett Manthe, Mayo Statz, Raymond Statz, Stuart Drake, LeRoyn Conner, Gerald Statz, Max Childers and Leroy Childers. Four granddaughters, Ramona Conner, Twila Statz, Sharon Statz and Helen Statz, acted as flower girls. Burial was made in the Nelson cemetery (sic).
