Description	:	William Statz, 49-year-old farmer, living six miles north of Nelson, was kiled when struck by lightning during an early morning storm in that locality Tuesday. The bolt struck the gable of the granary in which Mr. Statz had been working, at about 7 o'clock, shattered a window and casing, coursed along the door track and down a perpendicular metal side-stripping near which he was standing. He was married and the father of two sons and four daughters. The funeral service will be at the Christian church this Thursday, afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. The Nelson Gazette, Thursday, July 28, 1938 William Theodore, second son of Augustus Statz, was born October 17, 1888, near Champion, Nebraska, and passed away at his home near Nelson, July 26, 1938, having reached the age of 49 years, 9 months and 9 days. In 1905 Will came with his parents to Nuckolls county (sic), where he grew to manhood in the Pleasant View neighborhood. On December 26, 1915, he was married to Hazel Josephine Adamson, and together they established the home on the farm, where the family now resides. During these 22 short years, seven children came to bless this union: Wendell who passed away in 1935, Doris, Raymond, Elizabeth, Irene, Helen, and Billy Lee. When a child he was christened according to the Lutheran Faith, and after coming to Nuckolls county (sic) he attended the United Brethren church near his home. In April, 1926, his father passed away. Those surviving, besides the wife and six children, are: his mother, Mrs. Anna Statz, Nelson; five brothers, Carl of Imperial, Louis of Anderson, Mo., Fred of Salinas, Calif., John of Fairfield, and Ted of Nelson; four sisters, Mrs. Minnie Manthe, Kewanee, Ill., Mrs. Nellie Drake, Republican City, Mrs. Lena Conner, Nelson, Mrs. Lillie Filer, Kimball; four uncles, two aunts, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Strong, helpful and loving, O, Loved one and Friend, you could never know how we shall miss you. Funeral services were conducted from the Church of Christ at Nelson, on Thursday, July 28, by Bro. L.W. Myers of Wymore, assisted by Bro. Daniels of the United Brethren church, and burial was made in the family plot. A mixed quartet composed of Messrs. O.L. Aikin and Roy Brookhart, and Madames J.B. Wehrman and Harold Wood furnished the music, with Mrs. Grace Moss accompanying. Pallbearers were: F.M. Harris, Wray Wehrman, Ernest Wroughton, Joe Ferebee, Frank Ruttman and R.G. Oltman. CARD OF THANKS Words fail to express our gratefulness for the many kind acts, expressions of sympathy, the beautiful flowers and music, in this trying hour. Mrs. Hazel Statz and children, Mrs. Anna Statz and family. Relatives from out of town for the Wm. Statz funeral August 28th, were: Carl Statz, wife and daughter from Imperail, Louis Statz and family of Fairfield, Mrs. Minnie Manthe and son Ralph, also Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Seefeld of Kewanee, Ill., Mrs. Nellie Drake of Republican City, Mr. and Mrs. Filer of Kimball. Adamson relatives were: Stanley, wife and daughter Lila of Wauneta, Eston, Eldon Ruth and Inez Adamson of Oberlin, Kansas, and Miss Esther Shively of New York City.
