Mrs. Anna Bingham Crabbe, wife of Wm. R. Crabbe, died at their home near the Steifer mine, at 4 o’clock Sunday morning, from a congestive chill. Death came suddenly. Mrs. Crabbe had been feeling miserable for about six weeks, but at no time was she considered seriously ill, until within a few hours of her death. Unfortunately, Mr. Crabbe who was employed at Kennett, Shasta county, failed to get the news of his wife’s’ illness until too late to be at her bedside at the close of her life. Anna Bingham Crabbe was born in East McHais [sic: Machias], Maine, March 17th, 1879, consequently at the time of her death she was just 28 years of age. She came to Chico when but a child, where she completed the course in the public schools and for three years attended the Normal. At this point she was obliged to ceased her schooling because of the illness of her mother, Mrs. Eugene Foren, who resides on Walnut street, between Ninth street and Little Chico creek. Mrs. Crabbe was a kind and loving mother and a devoted wife. She was possessed of a bright and sunny disposition and was loved by all who knew her. Besides a mother, father and brother, she leaves to mourn her loss a husband and four little children, the eldest but seven years of age, and the youngest but little over a year old. The remains were brought to Chico on last evening’s Stirling City train. The funeral will be held from the home of her mother, Mrs. Foren, at 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon.
