She was 91. Anna was born in Missouri, graduated from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Teachers College and in what was then still unusual for career-bound women, she went on to Chicago University to earn a master's degree in home economics. Thus equipped with impressive academic credentials, she moved West to take employment at Corvallis (Oregon) University. When the Great Depression hit, the staff was cut back and she went job-hunting. She had worked about a year for a clothing store in San Francisco when she learned of an opening with UC Extension Service in Kings County, applied and was hired. As Anna Price, she became part of a three-member staff then ensconced in the old National Guard Armory building on East Eighth Street, across from the present Carnegie Museum. Taking the lead of the Extension Service emphasis, she helped organize women's home demonstration groups all over the county. Part of the thrust at that time was to offer farmwomen, in particular, educational oppotunities relevant to their way of life. They, in turn, shared these skills with others. These were sessions on such topics as cooking, canning, sewing, home decorating and home improvements. The UC Extension went through a series of moves over the years, including occupying a former mortuary building at Eighth and Harris and an old bungalow on Lacey Boulevard before the county built new offices south of the old Kings General Hospital. She and other staff members helped design the quarters to accommodate the Extension Service programs. She retired in 1972. Through the course of employment and church associations, she met her husband-to-be Clarence Garner, and they were wed at Corvallis, Oregon in August 1938. Anna and Clarence raised two sons, Leslie and John, on their ranch northeast of Hanford. Anna was a member of First United Methodist Church, was a past president of Hanford Soroptimist Club, a member of Kings County Farm Bureau and professional organizations. She also was a genealogy buff and a member of the Mayflower Society chapters in Fresno, comprised of descendants of colonists who came to America aboard the Mayflower.
