The Sioux City Journal, March 19, 1961 ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Former Resident Dies At Sioux City - Mrs. Anna Mersch, 77, of Sioux City, a girlhood resident of the Alton vicinity, died Friday at her home in Sioux City. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Goetzinger, lived some 60 years ago on the Frank Hansen homestead, now the Mike Hansen farm southeast of Alton, but the family moved away, according to early residents, after the death of Mr. Goetzinger. Anna Goetzinger was born Sept. 30, 1883 at Alton. She was married to Peter Mersch Feb. 22, 1805 at Le Mars. Last month the couple observed the 56th anniversary of their marriage. She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic church and had been a resident of Sioux City for the last 42 years. Survivors include the widower; six sons, Fred, Edwin and Clyde, all of Sioux City, Claude and Cletus, both of Jefferson, S. D., and John of Toronto, S. D.; two daughters, Mrs. Cecelia Spaulding and Mrs. Mary Stephenson, both of Sioux City; two sisters, Mrs. Simon Hughes and Mrs. Susie Weinhart, also of Sioux City; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
