Description	:	John R. Mersch, 61, of Toronto, S. D., formerly of Sioux City, died Friday in Toronto after a sudden illness. Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Brookings, S. D., with the Eng Funeral Home of Clear Lake, S. D., in charge. Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Meyer Bros. Colonial Chapel, and graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Calvary Cemetery. Mr. Mersch was born June 26, 1917, at Le Mars, Iowa. He married Imogene M. Wesselink April 22, 1944, in Las Vegas, Nev. She died June 26, 1977, in Hendricks, Minn. He moved to Sioux City with his family in 1919, attended Sioux City schools and lived here until entering the Army Air Force In 1942. He had managed lumber yards in various towns in South Dakota and Minnesota before moving to Toronto in 1954. He managed a lumber yard there before his retirement in 1977. He was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church and the American Legion in Toronto. Survivors include a son, John J. of Aurora; two daughters, Miss Jeanne Mersch of Brookings and Mrs. Royal (JoAnn) Selken of Arlington, S. D.; a brother, Cletus of Sioux City; two sisters, Mrs. Cecelia Spaulding and Mrs. Maurice (Mary) Stephenson, both of Sioux City, and five grandchildren. The Sioux City Journal, June 24, 1979
