Mrs. Schafer died Sunday of a lingering illness at Hillcrest Manor rest home where she had been for the last nine months. She had lived four years in a Spokane nursing home. The Rev. Pallbearers will be Ralph Gillis, Floyd Cameron, John Crouse, Frank West, A. R. Sitko and Earl Snyder. Rosary was held yesterday evening at the Danekas chapel. Mrs. Schafer was born to Mr. and Mrs. Henry Stuhr on Feb. 21, 1881, at Lincoln, Neb. She attended a convent in Yakima through the eighth grade. She was married to George Schafer in 1899 in Bickleton. The couple came to Ritzville in 1927 and moved to Washtucna in 1928, where she had lived for the past 44 years. Mr. Schafer preceded her in death in 1943. She was a member of the Catholic church and the Washtucna Grange. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Alvina McCune of Newman, Calif., and Mrs. Edwin Schafer of Ritzville; five sons, Theodore of Seattle, Frank of Ralston, Leo of Dayton, Vernon of Washtucna and Bernard of Spangle. Also surviving are three sisters, Miss Nora Stuhr of Seattle, Mrs. Marie Creel of Seattle and Mrs. Alice William of Spokane; six brothers, Ted Stuhr, Henry Schafer, Nick Schafer, Louis Schafer, Ben Schafer and Dan Schafer, all of Ritzville; 21 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
