Laura was born in Vulcan in 1921 to Mary and Labon Eamor, being the youngest of four brothers and six sisters. She attended school in Vulcan and in 1943, she married Tom Houlton and lived in the Reid Hill district until moving into town in 1958. Tom passed away in 1976. Laura was born in Vulcan in 1921 to Mary and Labon Eamor, being the youngest of four brothers and six sisters. She attended school in Vulcan and in 1943, she married Tom Houlton and lived in the Reid Hill district until moving into town in 1958. Tom passed away in 1976. Laura later married Walter Dann in 1996, who passed away in 2006. Laura was a Past President of the Women’s Institute, Lionettes, Vulcan Ladies Curling Club and Golf Club, UCW and an Honored Royal Lady of the Royal Purple Elks. Laura was one of the first female bus driver in Alberta and drove a school bus for 30 years (1944-1974 in the Vulcan district). Initially, school bus drivers had to buy their own vehicles. Her first bus was a Model A drop-seat 7 passenger car, then a Ford truck with a cover on the box (the children had to board via the tail gate and were only visible through the rear window sitting on benches). This was followed by a 32 passenger bus. Kids sometimes brought snakes , which caused panic. Laura, and her husband, got to know generations of the same family and became very fond of them.
