October 24, 1898 - Carroll Sentinel - Thursday about noon the spark of life which animated the emaciated body of Mrs. Anna Mary Stammayer died out and her spirit winged its flight to its maker. For long weary weeks she had gradually failed and was conscious of her approaching dissolution but still she bore up bravely and met her fate with that calm Christian patience that has characterized her life. Early in July she was attacked with cancer of the stomach. Rapidly it developed and so destructive was it that in a few weeks she was unable to retain a particle of nourishment and for the last two mouths she has lived upon the vital forces of the body unassisted by added nourishment. Under such conditions it was but a question of time until the end must come. The funeral was held at SS. Peter and Paul's church Saturday morning and was largely attended by the relatives and friends of the deceased who had known and loved this kind Christian woman, a fond mother and a loving wife. The deceased was born in Germany 73 years ago. She moved to this county about nineteen years ago with her husband who died a couple of years later. They settled in Kniest township but moved to this city fourteen years ago and have resided here since. There were four children, all of whom are living, John, Katie, Joe and Mrs. Clara Hamill, and are residing in this city. The family has the sympathy of their friends, for there is no sadder time in life than when the family in summoned to stand around the bier to take the last longing look at mother.
