July 6, 1948 - Carroll Times - Mrs. P. J. Hamill, widow of a Carroll county sheriff, died at her home, 126 North Whitney street, at 11:20 Sunday morning after a two-month illness. She was 88 years old. Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's church, with the Rt. Rev. Msgr. P.T. Lynch offering the requiem mass. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.... Mrs. Hamill, one of four children of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Stammeyer, was born Clara Stammeyer January 30, 1860, in Dubuque, Iowa. She came to Carroll with her parents in 1879. Her marriage to Mr. Hamill took place in April, 1893, at St. Joseph's church here. They were the second couple married in the parish. Mrs. Hamill, whose husband died in 1930, leaves 12 children: Robert Hamill, Carroll; Joseph, Black Eagle, Mont.; Mrs. Bertha Juttelstad, Bremerton, Wash.; Mrs. E.L. Hall (Frances), Carroll; Harry, Vancouver, Wash.; Mary Ann Hamill, Carroll; Charles, Omaha; Esther, Carroll; Mrs. Elmer T. Allison (Verle), Omaha; Norman and Norbert, twins, of Arcadia, Calif., and Sioux City, respectively, and Warren, Des Moines. There are 24 grandchildren. Two children preceded their mother in death, Margaret and Veronica. Mrs. Hamill was the last of her family, which included a sister, Katherine Stammeyer, and two brothers, John and Joe Stammeyer. She was a member of St. Josephs church and the Christian Mothers sodality of the parish.
