Read More	Holyoke Enterprise, Holyoke, CO, 24 Apr 1952 GROTHMAN RITES HELD AT VENANGO Mrs. Anna Marie Grothman, a native of Germany and a resident of Venango, Nebraska for many years, died Tuesday of last week at the Rose Memorial hospital in Denver. She was 73 years old. Services were held at Venango and burial was there. Mrs. Grothman, a daughter of Jacob and Rosalie Mauser, was born December 21, 1878, at Writenburg, Germany. She came to America with her parents when she was 6 years old. The family lived at Big Springs, Nebraska for a short time, then moved to a farm near Amherst. The difficult pioneer life Mrs. Grothman endured in the 1880s included living in a "dugout," hauling supplies from Big Springs to Amherst and having to ford the South Platte river enroute, and many droughts and blizzards. She received a limited education and taught school in the Amherst community for nine years. On July 11, 1906, she was married to August Grothman at Venango. They lived on a farm 5 1/2 miles southeast of Venango for six years, moving in 1912 to Venango, where Mr. Grothman engaged in the implement and blacksmith business. Mrs. Grothman was active in church work and community activities. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star. Preceding her in death were her husband and an infant son, Eugene Albert. She leaves two sons, Oscar Grothman, Hastings, Nebraska, and Garrett Grothman, Venango; two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Foster of Grant, Nebraska, and Mrs. Lyndall Deeds of Olympia, Washington; three sisters, Mrs. Tillie Dowding, Windsor, Colorado, Mrs. Nanna Gebhart, Amherst and Mrs. Pauline Gunther, Warsaw, Wisconsin, and one brother, Gotlieb Mauser of Big Springs, Nebraska, and seven grandchildren. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ August Grothman, age 38, and Anna Marie Mauser, age 27, were married at Holyoke, Phillips County, Colorado on July 11, 1906 by J. T. Jenkins, minister. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ 1930 Venango Village Perkins Co., Nebraska August, Anna, and children.
