Gebhart, one of the earliest residents of this area, were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 30, at the Holyoke Methodist church. Officiating minister was Rev. H. Ward Barter of the Methodist church. Interment was at Holyoke Memorial Park. Arrangements were in charge of the Lewis Funeral Home. Mrs. Gebhart, who was 84 years of age, passed away at 8:00 p.m. Monday April 27, at the Sheridan Manor Nursing Home in Holyoke. She had resided in the local nursing home for two weeks, having been brought here from Wray, where she was a nursing home resident for about a year. A daughter of Jacob and Rosalie Mauser, Nanna Rosalie Mauser was born in Germany on January 9, 1880. She came to America with her parents and the family settled north of Amherst in 1882, when Mrs. Gebhart was 2 years of age. The Mausers were among the very earliest permanent residents of this area, and Mrs. Gebhart said she could remember an Indian-white battle in the Lewellen, Nebraska section when she was a very small child. Her parents considered leaving their farm home until the trouble was settled but decided to stay and were not bothered by the Indians. On September 2, 1902, Nanna Mauser was united in marriage to William D. Gebhart. They established their home about nine miles northeast of Holyoke. Mr. Gebhart died on February 2, [15?] 1941, and Mrs. Gebhart continued to live on the home place with two of her sons until she entered a nursing home at Wray. Survivors include three sons, Ronald and Roy, Holyoke, and Harold, Syracuse, New York; one daughter, Mrs. F.E. Decker, Denver; and one sister, Mrs. Tillie Dowding, Windsor, Colorado.
