(Source: Thayer County, NE Marriage Records) ====================== The Belleville Telescope (Belleville, KS), Thursday, December 1, 1960; pg. 10 Mrs. Sophia Kroeger Anna Sophia Eitzmann was born to Frederick Eitzmann and his wife, Ida, nee Harms, August 21, 1883, on their farm four miles northwest of Byron. She was baptized on September 3 of that year at St. Peter Lutheran Chruch (sic), Bryon, by Pastor H. Rehvoldt. She received her education in a nearby school, and received her Christian instruction at St. Peter Lutheran church (sic) where she was confirmed on April 15, 1897, by Pastor O. Lompe. On September 30, 1908 (sic), she was united in marriage to Johann Kroeger at St. Peter Lutheran Church. Later that fall the young couple moved to a farm near Cushing, Okla. After about a year and a half they moved back to this community where they spent the remainder of their lives. They were faithful members of St. Paul Lutheran Church until death claimed them. This couple was blessed with eight children. On April 9, 1936, her husband passed away. Mrs. Kroeger remained on the farm with some of the children until 1918 when she began to live with her children in their homes. For about a year she had been in poor health, was taken to the hospital in Belleville November 13 where she was until her death on Thursday, November 17, 1960. She reached the age of 77 years, 2 months and 27 days. Preceding her in death besides her husband were a daughter, Ida in 1943, five grandchildren, and six brothers and sisters. She leaves to honor her memory seven children, Mrs. Albert (Anna) Rademacher, Newkirk, Okla.; Mrs. Fritz (Emma) Schlueter of Hardy; Ernest, Mrs. Henry (Freida) Wittke, Albert, Otto, and Mrs. Raymond (Hilda) Marquart of Byron; 25 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; five brothers and sisters, F.W. Eitzmann of Ponca City, Okla.; August Eitzmann of Newkirk, Okla.; Ernest A Eitzmann of Byron; Mrs. Ida Frei and Mrs. Fred Lenz of Fairwater, Wis.; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Byron Saturday, November 19, at 2:00 p.m., and were conducted by Pastor Dennis D. Mueller. Interment was made in St. Paul Lutheran cemetery (sic).
