Burial will be in Hardin township cemetery. Boone News Republican July 21, 1951 Stratford Rites For Mrs. Swanson Funeral services for Mrs. A.G. Swanson of Stratford, were held Wednesday, July 11, with a prayer service in the home at 1:30 p.m., at which time scripture reading and prayer were given by Pastor Howard Johnson. The Rev. and Mrs. Melvin Pederson of Dayton sang a Swedish hymn, "O Jesus Kare." At 2 o'clock services were conducted in the Mission Covenant church, with the Rev. Melvin Pederson, pastor, officiating. Pastor Johnson sang, "God Leads His Dear Children Along," and Mrs. Larson and Miss Berglund sang, "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere." Accompaniments were played by Mrs. W.R. Holstrom. The many beautiful flowers were in charge of Miss Hannah Nelson and Mrs. Erick Erickson. Pallbearers were grandsons of the deceased: Paul Anderson, C. Arvid Anderson, S. Vernon Anderson, Lester Swanson, Clifford Anderson and Lloyd E. Anderson. Numerous memorial contributions for missions were given in memory of the deceased. Interment was in Hardin township cemetery. Life Sketch Mrs. Anna Swanson was born Nov. 22, 1858, in Hjelmsryds formsamling in the province of Småland, Sweden. In 1879 she was united in marriage to Gottfrid Swanson. In 1892 [as printed] they left Sweden for America and arrived in Iowa that same year. One daughter, now Mrs. Amanda Anderson, was born in Sweden. Three other children were born here, Oscar, David and Anna, now Mrs. Albin Anderson. With the exception of seven years when they lived in Angus, Iowa, the Swansons lived in the Swede Bend and Stratford area since 1881. Mr. Swanson passed away in 1931. Mrs. Swanson continued living with her son, David, until her passing Sunday, July 8, at 2:40 a.m., at the age of 92 years, seven months and 15 days. Mrs. Swanson was predeceased by one son, Oscar, in 1924. Her two daughters, as well as her son, David, all live in the Swede Bend district. Mrs. Swanson was a loving mother and wife. She was known for her Christian faith and love for singing. For years she has been known as Grandma Swanson, and was the oldest member of the oldest Mission Covenant church in America. On her 92nd birthday anniversary, friends from far and near remembered her with letters and cards of greetings and many neighbors dropped in to wish her well. She is survived by her tow daughters and son, 11 grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, and a host of other relatives and friends. Howard Bergman of Fort Riley, Kans.; Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Johnson of Pilot Mound; Mrs. Swen Larson, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Peterson and Sandra, and Floyd Larson, all of Buffalo Center; Mr. and Mrs. Bill Larson and Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Jonnason of Lakota; Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Larson of Woden; Mrs. Bob Elwood, Roger and John Robert, of Joice; Mrs. Elmer Miller of Hampton, Miss Swea Larson and Ronald and John Larson of Thompson.
