Malvin, born Iowa; mother - Amanda Carpenter, born New Jersey; funeral at the M.E. Church on June 21, 1935. Lead Daily Call newspaper, June 18, 1935 - "Mrs. Ed Carter Passes Away. Well Known Lead Woman Succumbs To Long Illness At Her Home This Morning. Mrs. Anna Belle Carter, 71, Lead resident for many years and well known church worker here, passed away at the family home on Main street this forenoon after a lingering illness. Mrs. Carter became seriously ill about three weeks ago and her condition had been critical for the past few days. She is survived by her husband, Edward Carter, Sr., assistant manager of the Recreation building; four sons, Edward, Jr., of Madison, S.D., Charles and Lawrence, of Lead, and Wesley, of Sioux City, Ia. Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Carter arrived here Saturday evening, summoned on account of the illness of Wesley's mother. Mrs. Carter also leaves a brother, J.W. Malvin, of Belle Fourche; 12 grandchildren, and two nephews, DeWitt and Carroll Malvin of Belle Fourche. The deceased was born on August 28, 1863, in Colesburg, Ia. She was married to Mr. Carter in St. Luke's church in Dubuque, Ia. on September 28, 1904. She and Mr. Carter came to Lead in 1912, and have made their home here continuously since that time. Mr. Carter was an active member of the Methodist church. She was superintendent of the church Cradle Roll, and was a former president of the Methodist Ladies aid. She was also a member of the Lead chapter of Eastern Star, and of the Lead Woman's club. Of a cheerful and kindly disposition, Mrs. Carter during her long residence here had endeared herself to innumerable friends. Arrangements for funeral services will be announced later, when definite word is received as tot he arrival of relatives." Lead Daily Call, June 19, 1935 - "Funeral Rites For Mrs. Edward Carter Friday. Funeral services for the late Mrs. Anna Belle Carter, wife of Edward Carter, of Lead, will be held at 2:30 o'clock Friday afternoon from the Methodist church. The Rev. F.W. Viken, pastor, who is attending summer school at Dakota Wesleyan at Mitchell, is expected to come here to conduct the services jointly with the Rev. F.W. Cannon, of Woonsocket, who is temporarily filling the Rev. Viken's pulpit. An honorary escort will be composed of Chambers Kellar, William Frackelton, Jr., M.C. Kellogg, Sydney Staple, O.W. Kolberg and Dr. N.W. Stewart. The active escort will be composed of William Oates, Charles Trethowan, James McGinley, Andrew Abbott, John Schultz and Horace Swickard. Interment is to be made in the family lot in South Lead Cemetery." Lead Daily Call, June 20, 1935 - "Carter Services To Be Tomorrow. Funeral services for the late Mrs. Anna Belle Carter will be held from the Methodist church Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. The body will remain at the Rounsevell funeral home until 10 o'clock tomorrow morning, where it may be seen by friends. As a mark of respect to the memory of Mrs. Carter, the Recreation building will be closed tomorrow afternoon from 1 to 4 o'clock." Lead Daily Call, June 21, 1935 - "Last Rites Held For Mrs. Ed Carter. Friends of the late Mrs. Edward Carter from this section of the Hills filled the Methodist church this afternoon to attend funeral services conducted jointly by the Rev. Floyd W. Viken, pastor, and the Rev. F.W. Cannon, of Woonsocket, visiting pastor. The sermons was preached by the Rev. Viken, who with Mrs. Viken arrived here last evening from Mitchell where Mr. Viken is attending summer school at Dakota Wesleyan university. There were many beautiful floral pieces, tokens of the high esteem in which the deceased was held. A mixed quartette composed of Mrs. Gilmore Johns, soprano; Miss Evelyn Cox, alto; Arthur Morcom, tenor; and David Cox, bass, sang three hymns, 'Jesus Saviour, Pilot Me,' 'Art Thou Wary' and 'My God, My Father, While I Stray.' Sydney Staple played the organ accompaniment. Interment was made in the family lot in South Lead cemetery, with an honorary escort composed of Chambers Kellar, William Frackelton, Sr., M.C. Kellogg, Dr. N.W. Stewart, Sydney Staple and O.W. Kolberg. The active pallbearers were William Oates, Charles Threthowan, James McGinley, Andrew Abbott, John Schultz and Horace Swickard. The Rev. and Mrs. Viken, who came here to conduct the services for Mrs. Carter, an active member of the Methodist church for many years, left later this afternoon to return to Mitchell."
