Feb 6, 1899 - Carroll Sentinel - Mrs. Ann Kirk died at her home at Maple River yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock after an illness of about ten days with the grip. She had always been in such robust health that, while the fact of her illness was generally known, the news of her death came as a great shock to her friends. Her advanced age, however, rendered it impossible for her to withstand the ravages of the disease. Her son Andrew is still quite sick with the same complaint. The deceased was born in County Derry, Ireland, eighty years ago, and came to this country in 1874, settling at that time on the place at Maple River, where she resided up to the hour of her death. She was the mother of eight children, six of whom survive her, three sons: Thomas, Cornelius and Andrew, and three daughters: Mrs. Daniel Morgan, Mrs. Daniel Wolfe and Miss Kittie. All of them were with her in her last hours except Mrs. Wolfe, who is sick at her home at Menlo. Mrs. Kirk had always been in good health and although her advanced age enfeebled her, yet she was a constant attendant at St. Joseph's church, of which she was a devout member. She was widely known and esteemed and her death will be mourned by many outside her immediate family. The funeral services will be held tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock at St. Joseph's church.
