Read More	Obituary, Courtesy of Oxley-Heard Mrs. Anne Minor Kirby, age 82, of Fernandina Beach, passed away on Sunday morning, November 24, 2013 at Baptist Medical Center Nassau. Born in Jacksonville, FL she was one of two children born to the late Roy James and Bessie Hilda Harrold Minor. As a young girl, her family lived in the Springfield section of Jacksonville where she attended Kirby Smith Junior High and was a graduate of Andrew Jackson High School, Class of 1948. After high school, she joined the Duval County Tax Collectors Office on Forsyth Street where she remained until retiring in 1974. In February of 1955, while visiting her aunt in Fernandina , she met Jerry Daniel "Dan" Kirby Sr., who would become her husband in October of that same year. The newlyweds lived in North Jacksonville while her husband commuted daily to ITT Rayonier in Fernandina. In the middle 1960s, they purchased a beach house that would become home in 1973. After retiring in 1974, she was contacted by the Nassau County Tax Collector's Office to assist on a part time status. Part time turned into full time until retiring again in 2003 as Deputy Tax Collector. After retiring her family recalls her enjoyment of "The Price is Right". She was always fond of trips to North Carolina to visit, Hendersonville, Asheville and Black Mountain. Mrs. Kirby had been a member of the First Presbyterian Church in downtown Jacksonville, where she and her husband were married. They later joined Northminster Presbyterian and after coming to Fernandina, they joined First Presbyterian of Fernandina Beach where she served as Sunday School Superintendent and was a member of the Women of the Church. She was a former member of Fernandina # 55, Order of the Eastern Star and the Order of Amaranth. Mrs. Kirby leaves behind her husband, best friend and soulmate of 58 years, Dan Kirby, Fernandina Beach, FL, their son, Jerry D. Kirby Jr. (Suzanne), Jacksonville, FL, their daughter, Karol Kirby, Fernandina Beach, FL, a brother, Richard Minor, Jacksonville, FL, four grandchildren, three great grandchildren, one great great grandson, two nephews and two great nephews. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at the First Presbyterian Church of Fernandina Beach with Dr. Wain Wesberry and Dr. Doug Ganyo, officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Eubanks Cemetery, Jacksonville, FL. Her family will receive friends on Friday from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at the Oxley Heard Funeral Home. If so desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Eber Phillips Scholarship Fund, c/o First Presbyterian Church, 9 North 6th Street, Fernandina Beach, FL 32034.
