After a little... Read More	Mrs. Annie Cunningham, about 70, was fatally infured in an explosions at ther home in Wakefield about six p.m. last Wednesday. Norman (Sonny) Price, Jr., 28, who came to her assistance, suffered second degree burns and at the time was given a 50-50 chance to live. However, he is reported to be a little better this week. Mrs. Cunningham, who lived in the south part of Wakefield, noticed that the fire was out under her hot water heater, and when she could not get it started, she summoned Mr. Price, who lived about half a block away. After a little investigation, Mr. Price attempted to light the fire, and in an instant the explosion occured. Both Mrs. Cunningham and Mr. Price were thrown about ten feet into the entrance of the basement, by the blast, which also blew out the end of the house and flattened the garage adjoining the house. The Cunningham automobile was also damaged. Although Price was painfully burned, about the face and body, he managed to get outside, and roll in the grass to extinguish the flames. Ben Fyfe, who was looking out the back door of his shop nearby, heard and saw the explosion. He immediately ran over to the scene of the accident. Young Price told Mr. Fyfe that Mrs. Cunningham was inside. They later found her pinned under a big door that had blown off. She was unconscious, and had suffered a concussion, a broken hip, crushed ankle, other injuries and severe burns. Mrs. Cunningham was rushed by ambulance to the Clay Ceter Municipal Hospital. Price was taken to the Junction City hospital. Mrs. Cunningham never regained consciousness, and her death occurred shortly after 11 a.m. Thursday at the Clay Center Municipal hospital. Her husband, James Cunningham preceded her in death. She leaves one son, Vernon Cunningham, three daughters, Mrs. Alta Shivers, Mrs. Mildred Fasse and Mrs. Paul Roles, and their families, of the Wakefield vicinity, also other relatives. Mrs. Cunningham is well and favorably known in Clay Center, having spent two years here nursing in the home of Mrs. Will Vincent and the Keeners, also being with Mrs. Nellie Earnbart at one time. Her death comes as a great shock to her family and friends. Most of the Wakefield folk heard the blast, but at first attributed it to some explosion at Fort Riley or to the current Fourth of July fireworks. However, very quickly a crowd gathered at the Cunningham home to render any help they could. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Mercer chapel in Wakefield, with the Rev.
