Description	:	Husband of Margaret Messersmith Rosenberger In his Last Will & Testament June 1, 1850 He bequeths money to the following 10 children by name: Henry, Christine Knupp, Catharine Burkhart, Nancy Burwell, Mary McClure, Susan Rebecca Pitzer, John Anthony, John, Margaret Watson and Elizabeth Pultz. He emancipates and sets free at his death, his slaves Philip and Henry and his slave Lucinda to be set free on August 1, 1859, in the meantime to be hired out by the estate. Anthony evidently considered the institution of slavery with a degree of moderation, which was governed by the size of his farm, his German habit of working hard himself, and his natural concern for others. Susan Pitzer's daughter said if Anthony, "He had a great concern for people. He bought some slaves in order to free them." As noted above, his will included a provision for the freedom of his slave's Philip and henry at his death as well as for Lucinda upon her 30th birthday. Lucinda went to live at Liberia, the colony for freed slave and she corresponded with the Rosenberger family for many years.
