Description	:	Antje H. Sweers was born 16 February 1860 in Larrelt, Ostfriesland, Germany, a daughter of Herman and Hannah (Gerder) Sweers. In 1883 while still in Germany she was united in marriage to Heije M. Folkerts. In 1890 Heije and Antje accompanied by their two children, Herman and Jake, sailed for America. In 1883 while still in Germany she was united in marriage to Heije M. Folkerts. In 1890 Heije and Antje accompanied by their two children, Herman and Jake, sailed for America. They settled near Wellsburg, Iowa. Twelve more children were born after their arrival in the United States: Katie, Hannah, ?, Wobea, ?, Heye, ?, twins, George & John, Anna, George and Grace Folkerts. In 1901 they moved to Hancock County and lived on a farm south of Britt. Seven years later they moved near Kanawha and then into the town itself in 1914. On 13 August 1922, Heije Folkerts died at his home as a result of "a complication of diseases due to old age." Widow, Antje Folkerts (64 Germany) was living with her daugher, Grace (20 Iowa) in the 1925 State Census for Goodell, Hancock County, Iowa. On Wednesday evening , 4 March 1925, at the age of 64 Antje married Heije's brother, Harm Folkerts. The ceremony was performed at the Christian Reformed parsonage by the Rev. G. L. Hoefker. This was a second marriage for Harm as well. They lived in Steamboat Rock, where Harm was from. Eight months later, on 22 November 1925 Harm Folkerts passed away. Antje returned to Kanawha where she lived a number of years and then spent some time among her children. She was a faithful member of the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church. On Wednesday, 9 October 1946, Antje (Sweers) Folkerts died at the home of Mrs. Minnie Peterson in Britt, Iowa. She was 86 years, 7 months and 23 days of age at the time of her death. Antje was ill but one day, suffering from bronchial pneumonia. The day before she had visited at the home of her brother, Jacob Sweers, and his wife. ************************************************************ MRS. ANTJE FOLKERTS LAID TO REST Mrs. Antje Folkerts was born in Larrelt, Germany, February 16, 1860 and died at the home of Mrs. Minnie Peterson in Britt, Wednesday, October 9, having attained the age of 86 years, 7 months, and 23 days. Deceased was ill but one day, suffering from bronchial pneumonia. On the previous day she had visited at the home of her brother, Jacob Sweers, and his wife. Antje Sweers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harm Sweers, spent her early life in her native Germany and in 1883 was married to Heije Folkerts. In 1890 Mr. and Mrs. Folkerts, accompanied by their two children, Herman and Jake, sailed for America - the land where all people had an equal chance. They resided at Wellsburg, Iowa, one year and in 1891 came to Hancock county. They lived on a farm south of Britt for seven years then moved nearer to Kanawha. A number of years later they moved into Kanawha where Mr. Folkerts died on August 13, 1922. In 1924 Mrs. Folkerts married Harm Folkerts, a brother of her first husband. They lived together until 1925 when they were parted by death. Since her first husband's death, Mrs. Folkerts lived for a number of years in Kanawha and then spent some time among her children. She was in Rest Haven Nursing Home in Mason City several months and during the past year had been in Britt. Deceased was the mother of fourteen children. Of this number, five survive: two sons - Herman Folkerts at Ventura and Jake of Britt; three daughters, Mrs. Jake Van Dusseldorf (Kate), Britt, Mrs. Henrey Brouwer (Hannah), Clear Lake, and Mrs. Peter Ruter (Anna), Kanawha. One brother, Jacob Sweers, at Britt; a sister, Mrs. Grace Veer, at Mason City; twenty-one grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren also survive. A daughter, Mrs. Fred Abbas, of Kanawha was killed in an accident a number of years ago. Deceased was a faithful member of the Christian Reformed Church of Kanawha where the funeral services were held Saturday afternoon following a short service at the Boughton Funeral Home in Britt. Interment was made in the family lot in Evergreen Cemetery at Britt. Rev. D. H. Plesscher of the Kanawha church was in charge.
