Read More	PLYMOUTH COUNTY WOMAN IS CALLED Mrs. Antje Schmidt Kruse Had Resided in County for Fifty Years Mrs. Antje Schmidt Kruse, 93, pioneer resident of Plymouth County and one of the oldest inhabitants of the vicinity, passed away Tuesday night, last week in the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Mammen of Grant Township. Mrs. Kruse was the widow of Harm Kruse, well known land owner and stock farmer in the northwest part of the county in early days. He died, comparatively young, in 1894. Antje Schmidt was born in Riepe, Germany, March 17, 1842, and came to America in 1866. Mrs. and Mrs. Kruse were early settlers in Iowa and located in Gundy County, where they farmed successfully for a number of years. Coming to Plymouth County in 1885, they bought land in Grant Township, which they improved and developed, and later increased their holdings. Mr. Kruse was an exceptionally good manager and hard worker, and was ably assisted by his wife. Mrs. Kruse is survived by three sons and four daughters; D.H. Kruse, H.H. Kruse, John H. Kruse, Mrs. John H. Mammen, Mrs. Adolph Popken, Mrs. Herman Frerichs and Mrs. George Popken. There are thirty-eight grandchildren and forty-one great-grandchildren. The funeral was held last Friday, at 1 o'clock at the residence, with service at 2 o'clock at the Lutheran Church in Preston Township, Rev. Theodore Meyer officiating, and interment made in the Preston Township cemetery. Six grandsons carried the body to the grave. Mrs. Kruse was one of the pioneer women who helped build up the community and was highly esteemed by hundreds of people who have known her all their lives.
