He suffered a heart ailment for about 3 years which became quite severe 3 months before his death. He was born Dec. 6th, 1888 at Monterey, Nebr., the son of Frank and Justina Batenhorst. He was married to Clara C. Hulber May 17, 1913 at Monterey. To this union five children were born and all but one is left to mourn his loss, Roman, of Burbank, Calif., Robert, of St. Paul, Minnesota, Richard, Cedar Rapids, and Lorraine (Mrs. Don White), of Burbank, Calif. He was preceded in Death by his wife who died March 29, 1929 and a son Henry. Mr. Batenhorst was buried on the anniversary of his wife's death. He also leaves 2 grandchildren Kathy Batenhorst, 3, of St. Paul, Minn., and Gary Batenhorst, 2, of Cedar Rapids, brothers, Frank, of Cedar Rapids, Ben, of West Point, sisters, Minnie Hagedarn, West Point, Justine Decker, Wynot, and Sister M. Gabriel, of Gallup, New Mexico. He is preceded in death also by his parents Frank and Justine Batenhorst and a brother, William. He farmed in Cummings and Dodge counties until 1917 when he moved to a farm near Cedar Rapids. He quit farming in 1941 and moved to Cedar Rapids where he was employed until shortly before his death. He was a devout member of the Catholic church and a member of the Cedar Rapids Fire Department for 10 years. Funeral services were held Saturday, March 27 at 9:30 a.m. from St. Anthony's church with Father Buehler officiating at a Requiem high mass sung by the 3 voice choir with Mr. Larry Massman organist. Burial was at St. Anthony's cemetery. Pallbearers were Ed Holys, Phil Konert, Alphonse Syslo, John Homan, Maurice Mahoney and Fred Orshek. Relatives attending from a distance were Mrs. Don White, Burbank, Calif., Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Batenhorst, St. Paul, Minn., Mrs. Anton Hagedarn, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Batenhorst and Kenneth, Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Hunke, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Hagedarn, Norbert Batenhorst, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Kreikemeir, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kreikemier, and Mrs. John Peatrousky, of West Point, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Lenneman and Mrs. Georgia Halbur, Snyder, Mr. and Mrs. Alphonse Batenhorst, Elizabeth Pashag and Mrs. Robert Batenhorst, Stuart, Nebr., Mrs. Elizabeth Batenhorst, Fremont, and Mrs. Tina Decker, Wynot, Nebraska.
