She was young in years and, as we of earthly vision view it, her life count closed before the sun had reached the zenith of her life, but her earthly mission was fulfilled. Her work is finished and peace has come to her after days of intense suffering, although everything possible was done for her comfort and relief. Clara Cecilia was the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Halbur of West Point, Nebr. She was born on the 17th of April 1894 and grew to beautiful womanhood in that community. On the 7th day of May 1913 she became the bride of Anton F. Batenhorst also of West Point. For four years they resided there, then they moved to Cedar Rapids, Nebr., where they have since made their home. Their home was one of serenity and happiness, for it was founded upon religious teachings and a willingness for mutual helpfulness. Five children were born to them, Roman, Henry, Robert, Richard and Lorraine. Of these Henry preceded his mother in death, having passed into the radiance of the palace in the skies on the 17th of May, 1925. With their father and relatives they are carrying a heavy burden of sorrow, they would indeed be comforted; but consolations can come only through trust, and faith. As they gaze through tear-dimmed eyes upon the cross to ease their hearts vague longings, He who alone hath the power to comfort, can bestow His blessed gift of peace. During the sixteen years of her married life she reigned as a queen in her home, deeply loved and greatly honored, giving a full measure of affection and boundless devotion, not only to her family but to all of the many who were bound to her by the ties of friendship. Affectionate, friendly and kind to all, a Christian who practiced her profession of Christianity, her loss is deeply felt far beyond the precincts of her home. This was shown by the beautiful floral tributes which filled the room amid which the peaceful sleeper slept in dreamless sleep as hundreds passed through her home to pay homage to her memory. Hers was a busy life between her home duties, her church and social obligations, but she met them all cheerfully and wholeheartedly. It was Mrs. Batenhorsts' intuition and thoughtfulness of others, her hopefulness and sympathy, her inate generosity that will ever link her tenderly to many in memory, for though she has passed on she will ever continue to live in the hearts of all who knew her. The funeral was held Monday morning and was one of the largest ever held at the St. Anthony's church. Father Vermullen rendered a very beautiful and touching sermon. Interment was made in the parish cemetery beside little Henry. She leaves to mourn beside her heartbroken husband, three sons and an infant daughter; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Halbur of West Point; four sisters and four brothers, Thereza, now Mrs. Frank Batenhorst, Joe and Ben of Cedar Rapids; Katherine, now Mrs. John Peatrowsky, William, Raymond and Marcella of West Point and Wilfreda of Springer, New Mexico; besides a host of relatives and friends. The pall bearers were, August De Wulf, John Mahoney Sr., Joe Leikhus, Chas. Micek, Walter Gordon and Frank Schmidt. Out of town relatives and friends who were here for the services were: Mr. and Mrs. H.J. Halbur and family, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Batenhorst, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Batenhorst, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Decker, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Batenhorst, Mrs. Anton Hagedorn, Mr. and Mrs. John Peatrowsky, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Vakiner, Mr. and Mrs. John Burger, Mr. Chas.
