Pallbearers were Fred Marshall, Ben Mlady, Otto Haineraich, Leonard Haineraich,, Gordon Smolek and Marvin Mlady. Mr. Jelen died July 27 at Plainview General Hospital after a brief illlness. Anton Jelen was born November 11, 1883, at Omaha, to Vaclav and Antonia Pavlik Jelen. He attended Fremont Normal College two years and also Omaha Business School. He married Emma Smolek at Verdigre on November 10, 1912. Six children were born to them. After leaving Omaha Mr. Jelen lived in Holt County, then moved to Knox and resided eight miles northwest of Verdigre. He owned and operated the Jelen store, as well as the postoffice and hall there. Later he was in the real estate and insurance business. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Emma; daughters, Sylvia (Mrs. Lawrence Hengstler) of Alhambra, Calif.; Emeline (Mrs. Louis Skokan) of Verdigre; Alice (Mrs. Art Goedeker) of Creighton; sons Leonard of Corvallis, Ore.; Alvin of Albany, Ore.; and Anton, Jr. of Lincoln; nineteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and one brother, John Jelen of Verdigre. Preceding him in death were his parents, two sisters, Marie Nikl and Anna and one brother, Vac. FUNERAL RITES WEDNESDAY FOR ANTON JELEN Funeral services for Anton Jelen, long time resident of Knox county, were held Wednesday afternoon at 1:15 o'clock in Creighton and at 2:00 o'clock in Verdigre at the ZCBJ hall. Interment was in the Jelen cemetery. Mr. Jelen passed away at the Plainview hospital Saturday morning. He entered the hospital July 23 as a patient. OBITUARY Anton Jelen, son of Vaclav and Antonia (Pavlik) Jelen was born November 11, 1883 in Omaha. Later he and his parents moved to Holt county. In 1889 the Jelen family sold the homestead in Holt county and they bought a farm in Knox county, eight miles northwest of Verdigre. He attended Fremont Normal college for two years and he attended a business school in Omaha. He owned and managed the Jelen store, postoffice and hall for several years. Later Mr. Jelen moved to Verdigre and conducted a real estate and insurance business until his retirement.. He was united in marriage to Emma Smolek of Verdigre on November 10, 1912. To this union were born six children, three daughters and three sons. Mr. Jelen spent four years at the Brunswick rest home. He became ill and was taken to the Plainview hospital where he passed away at the age of 80 years, 8 months and 16 days. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Emma; daughters, Sylvia (Mrs. Lawrence Hengstler) of Alhambra, Calif.; Emeline (Mrs. Louis Skokan) of Verdigre; Alice (Mrs. Art Goedeker) of Creighton; sons Leonard of Corvallis, Ore.; Alvin of Albany, Ore.; and Anton, Jr. of Lincoln; nineteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and one brother, John Jelen of Verdigre.
