Description	:	Marie A. Nikl, daughter of Antonie and Vaclav Jelen, was born March 6, 1873 at Usti nad Labem, Czechoslovakia. At the age of six years, she came to America with her parents. The family settled in Omaha, Nebraska. Six years later they moved to Jefferson county in southern Nebraska. After a years residence there, they took up a homestead in Holt county. Joe died... Read More	Marie A. Nikl, daughter of Antonie and Vaclav Jelen, was born March 6, 1873 at Usti nad Labem, Czechoslovakia. At the age of six years, she came to America with her parents. The family settled in Omaha, Nebraska. Six years later they moved to Jefferson county in southern Nebraska. After a years residence there, they took up a homestead in Holt county. In 1885 they moved to what is now the Jelen community. Here she grew to womanhood. On March 30, 1899 she was married to Josef Nikl. To this union three children were born, Mary, Joe and Sylvia. Joe died in infancy. The last five years of her life were spent in California with her daughters. Here she died on the 26th day of April, 1929. The final summons came to her after four months of suffering from an incurable disease. Left to mourn her passing are her husband, Josef, her daughters, Mary Klimes and Sylvia Svoboda; three granddaughters, one grandson; one sister, Anna Jelen of Casper, Wyoming; three brothers, Vaclav, Anton and John Jelen and a host of relatives. She was a member of the Degree of Honor and the ZCBJ Lodge. Deceased was a woman of high ideals and irreproachable character. She took great interest in beautifying the surroundings of her home. As an evidence of this with her own hands she planted the saplings which grew into the stately trees that grace the highway from her old home at Jelen to the Cemetery, where her remains now repose. The body was brought back from California. Funeral services were held from the ZCBJ Hall, Wednesday of last week, participated in by members of the two organizations of which she had been a member. Joseph Broz gave an address in Bohemian and W.J. Svoboda gave the English address. Interment was made in the Jelen cemetery, west of Verdigre. Deceased was 55 years, 1 month and 20 days old. In their hour of sorrow, the bereaved relatives have the sincere sympathy of the entire community. Svoboda and to any and all friends, who by their helpfulness and sympathy assisted during the last rites for Mrs. Marie A. Nikl.
