May 10, 1923 - Carroll Times - Anton Wiedemeyer, 81 years old, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Joe Kanne, living north of Carroll, Tuesday morning at 8:30 o'clock. Death was due to angina pectoris. Mr. Wiedemeyer had been in his usual health until two weeks ago. When he became sick he expressed a wish to be taken to the home of his daughter in Kniest township. He was given the best of care, a trained nurse was employed and his daughters and sons were in constant attendance but he could not be spared. Mr. Wiedemeyer was born in Entrup, near Nieheim, Westphalia, Germany, February 26, 1842. He was married to Miss Josephine Wichers in Germany in 1868. They came to America in 1884 directly to Carroll county and located on the old home place on the Lincoln highway one mile east of the city limits. By the death of Mr. Wiedemeyer one of the highly respected citizens and founders of the county has passed to his reward. Mr. Wiedemeyer was a devout Catholic, being a member of the Sts. Peter and Paul's church. He was a pleasing and agreeable man and was always in a jovial mood. Mrs. Wiedemeyer died June 10, 1901, two days after she was injured in an accident between Carroll and the home place. Of the ten children born to Mr. and Mrs. Wiedemeyer, seven survive. One child died on the ocean trip to America, Anton, the eldest died six years ago, and John died a year ago. The surviving children are: W.I. Wiedemeyer and Leo Wiedemeyer, of Carroll; Joe Wiedemeyer, of Omaha; Mrs. Joe Kanne and Mrs. Anton Kanne, of Carroll, and Misses Josephine and Mary Wiedemeyer, of Carroll. Mr. Wiedemeyer and daughters moved to Carroll from the farm in 1917 and since that time lived in the First ward. Funeral services will be held at the Sts. Peter and Paul's church Friday morning.
