Son of Robert Alexander POINDEXTER (1788-1842) and Miriam Flynn POINDEXTER (1787-1818). In 1818, at the time of Archibald's birth, East Bend was part of Surry County. Yadkin County was formed in 1850 from the part of Surry County south of the Yadkin River, for which it was named. Married Elizabeth Ann "Betsy" WARD.
