OBITUARY THE CHARITON HERALD-PATRIOT Chariton, Iowa Thursday, June 28, 1934 ARCHIBALD SHORE Archibald Shore, son of Matthew and Sarah Ann Shore, was born in Huntington county, Pennsylvania, on January 22nd, 1853, and departed this life at his home in Chariton, Iowa, on June 24th, 1934, aged 81 years, 5 months and 2 days. On February 5th, 1873, he was married to Miss Ellen Zickafoose and to this union were born ten children. With his parents he moved to Illinois when he was three years old, and seventy years ago they moved to Lucas county, Iowa, where he has since lived, with the exception of three years spent in South Dakota and three years at Van Wert, Iowa. He received his education in the schools of Lucas county, Iowa. He was converted in a revival at the Bethel U. B. church, at the age of thirteen years, and soon after the United Brethren church was built in Chariton he and wife united with it. Since his conversion he has always been active in his Master's work, very zealous in attending every public means of grace, always had room in his home for the ministers, and he has always had family worship daily with his family, which he maintained to the very last, even after his speech had partly left him. He was not carried about or away with "strange doctrines" but was convinced that worship and services were more important; and he proved by his life that the Christian religion was practical. He was a carpenter for the past thirty-five years, and prior to that time was a farmer. The children are Orval, of Chariton; Wm. D., of Blunt, South Dakota; Otto, of Chariton, whose home for many years has been in adjoining yards with his parents; Jesse, of Knoxville, Iowa; Eugene, of Williamson, Iowa; Mrs. Mae Foster, of Chariton; and Everett, of Blunt, South Dakota. Three children preceded him to the glory land, Mrs. Grace Wright about 17 years ago, Mrs. Eva McVey about 12 years ago, and Charley Leroy died in infancy. The brothers are George M., of Chariton; Joseph, of Blunt, South Dakota; and Charles D., of Purdy, Iowa; and a sister, Mrs. Ella Duckworth, of Russell, Iowa. Brother Shore was a true brother, a loving husband, a kind father, an accomodating neighbor, a sincere, devoted Christian and a good man. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. O. O. Hobson, were held at the Beardsley Funeral Home on Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock, and burial took place in the Zion cemetery.
