Meikle, who departed this life, April 29, 1942 and who for many years has patiently suffered from an aliment from which science and care could not effect recovery. We have seen his strength and vitality ebb away as the victim of his aliment. It was just within the hours he become enveloped in the fog that closes the lease of one's life defeats the senses and carries the immortal soul of the deceased to it eternal reward. Our senses will no longer let us see his face hear his voice nor feel his pulse. We knew him as a representative of one of the families who opened the prairies and turned them into fertile field that surrounded Oelwein, before the city was known, railroads built and the market places established. Archie Meikle was the son of William C. Meikle and Sarah Harper Meikle, and was born in Oelwein, Iowa on November 5, 1886. The parents and grandparents were courageous and honest pioneers of this locality. His sister, Ethel Meikle Hoth many years ago preceded him in death. They both attended the country schools and later trod the corridors of Oelwein High School. Archie withdrew from school to become an industrialist and entered the employ of the Chicago Great Western Railway, served in the car repair department was promoted to foremanship in charge of a wrecking crew and few years ago departed from its ranks on account of ill health. Shortly after the close of their teens he was married to Nettie Holt on December 23, 1900, who with him in those early years stood on the threshold of life looking into the future. These two become the parents of Earl Meikle of Tucson, Arizona, and Margaret Meikle Robinson of Oelwein, Iowa, both of whom were afforded every possible opportunity for education, and accomplished its reward. Several years ago he was left alone upon the death of his wife and the mother of his household, Nettie. He later married Prisilla Greenley, who with care and devotion has afforded him every possible comfort to the end. He was a Christian gentleman, honest and respectful in his dealings with others, devoted to his responsibilities as a husband and Father and gave to his family every affordable opportunity. He is survived by his widow, by the son and daughter, by several nephews and nieces. Funeral services were conducted from the Hintz Funeral Home the Rev. F.C. Witzigman, pastor of Grace Methodist Church, officiating with interment in the family lot at Woodlawn Cemetery.
