MEIKLE OELWEIN DAILY REGISTER, FEBRUARY 22, 1936 Sarah Catherine Harper, daughter of William Harper and Mary Elizabeth Cruzan, was born near West Union, May 8, 1859, and departed this life at Oelwein, Iowa February 23, 1936, at the age of 76 years 9 months and 15 days. She grew to womanhood in the community of her birth, was united in marriage to William C. Meikle at her parents home on the farm near West Union, Fayette, Iowa on December 6, 1882. The new home was made on a farm near Oelwein. After some years the removed to Oelwein but their returned to the farm in 1901 they again came to Oelwein where they have resided ever since. To this union two children were born, a daughter and a son Ethel Jane and Archie John. The daughter died in May 12, 1923, leaving six children, the two youngest of which made their home with the grandparents, and to them Mrs. Meikle gave all the affection of her generous heart. Many years ago Mrs. Meikle became a Christian and for more than 40 years has been a member of Grace Methodist Church. Her Christian life received its finest expression in the beautiful devotion to her home and family. The sincerity of her life was evidenced in the self-forgetfulness of her devotion. Perhaps the genuineness of her character can be best realized in her oft reprated statement " I have done so little." Sister Meikle was also a member of the Order of Rebekah and the Yoeman. In the church she found her fellowship in the Big Sisters Class and the unit of the Ladies Aid Society. She is survived by her husband the companion of more than 53 years of devoted life and by her son. She also leaves to mourn her loses eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Together with many friends. Faithful were her labors and she has entered into the reward of those who have kept the Faith. Funeral services were held of he Grace Methodist Church Tuesday afternoon. February 25, at 2:30 p.m., Rev. F.C. Witzigman officiating. Mrs. Rose Meikle sang two numbers interment in Woodlawn Cemetery.
