Meikle was born on a farm near Oelwein, Iowa on June 19, 1860, and died on December 14, 1940, having attained a little more than four score years. His parents were William Meikle and Lucinda Allen. He lived his entire life in and near Oelwein. He served the Chicago Great Western Railroad in the car repair shop for over thirty years retiring some five years ago. He was married to Sarah Catherine Harper, December 06, 1882 in West Union Fayette Co., Iowa. She preceded him in death. One daughter, Mrs. Ethel Meikle Hoth, also preceded him, as did three grandchildren, Harold Duvitz Hoth, Josephine Katherine, and Samuel William Meikle. He is survived by a son Archie John Meikle and his wife Priscilla Greeney Meikle and 7 grandchildren. He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, but his life was largely spent his home, and at his work. The circle of his intimate friends was therefore not so large, and years that he did the majority of his friends had preceded him to the land of the Leal: for the circle of our friendship is not confined to the visible present, but included the larger circle of the invisible yesterdays. The funeral services were held on Monday, afternoon, December 16, at one-thirty o'clock at the Brant Funeral Home , conducted by Dr. L.W. Bauler, pastor of the Presbyterian church. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein, Iowa.
