Arleigh Peter Temple was born September 22, 1916 on a farm near Davis, the son of John P. and Ella (Symens) Temple. He attended Schoffelman rural school. Temple, 96, died Saturday, May 25, 2013, with his devoted wife at his side, at Lennox Good Samaritan Center. Arleigh Peter Temple was born September 22, 1916 on a farm near Davis, the son of John P. and Ella (Symens) Temple. He attended Schoffelman rural school. Some of his early years were spent with his uncle and aunt, George and Lena Symens. On October 8, 1940 he was united in marriage to Sophia L. Schmidt at the Reformed Church Parsonage in Lennox., a marriage that continued for over 72 years. During their marriage they farmed in the Lennox/Davis areas, moving to their farm northeast of Davis in 1960. Arleigh was an active and faithful member of Second Reformed Church where he served as an Elder and a Deacon. As a pastime he enjoyed bowling, fishing and hunting. Besides his parents and his step-father, Enno Stratmeyer, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Joan Temple, on June 18, 2011; his son-in-law: Ervin DeVries, on March 5, 1993; one sister, Engeline Linderholm, one week ago; three step-brothers and two step-sisters. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Sophia; two children: Ardyth DeVries of Holland, MI and Harlan Temple and his wife, Rita, of Davis; four grandchildren: Kevin (Jill) DeVries, Shelley (Robert) Young, Robert DeVries, and Deborah Crosier; five great-grandchildren; one sister: Ida Fossum of Lennox; three sisters-in-law: Pearl Highstreet, Laura Schmidt, both of Lennox and Jeannette Holden in California; nephew, John and Joyce Straatmeyer and a host of other relatives and friends.
