Description	:	Sophia Temple, 96, died Monday evening, July 28, 2014 at the Lennox Good Samaritan Center. Services were held Saturday, Aug. 2 at Second Reformed Church in Lennox. Officiating during the service was the Rev. Dr. Harlan Hayunga. Judy Schlunsen was organist, Randy Smit was soloist, and Diana Smit, pianist. Sophia Schmidt was born on March 11, 1918 near Tea, South Dakota the daughter of Herman and Gertrude (Geiken) Schmidt. She grew up in this area attending rural school, On October 8, 1940 she was united in marriage to Arleigh P. Temple at the Reformed Church Parsonage in Lennox. During their marriage they farmed in the Lennox/Davis areas, moving to their farm northeast of Davis in 1960. Arleigh died on May 25, 2013. Sophia became a resident of the Lennox Good Samaritan Center in November of 2004. Sophia was an active and faithful member of Second Reformed Church and belonged to the Philatha Guild. She also lead a Women's devotional time while at the Lennox Good Samaritan Center. In addition to her farm duties, she volunteered at the Lennox Day Center. She enjoyed gardening and was an excellent cook and baker. She will be remembered as a special mother and caring individual who was the first person to rise in the morning and the last to go to bed at night. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Joan Temple, on June 18, 2011; her son-in-law: Ervin DeVries, on March 5, 1993; and one brother George Schmidt. Grateful for having shared her life are her; two children: Ardyth DeVries, Holland, MI and Harlan (Rita) Temple, Davis; four grandchildren: Kevin (Jill) DeVries, Shelley (Robert) Young, Robert DeVries, and Deborah Crosier; two great-grandchildren; three step-great-granchildren; two sisters: Pearl Highstreet, Lennox and Jeannette Holden, Sacramento, California; sisters-in-law: Laura Schmidt and Ida Fossum both of Lennox; special friends, John and Joyce Stratmeyer and a host of other relatives and friends.
