Description	:	Arline and her husband, Clyde Kelley Sr., ran a bed and breakfast in Dennis Port for many years. He built a group of cottages in the woods around their home. They ran that for many years until Clyde fell from a roof and was severely disabled. They sold the property and moved to a smaller home until Clyde passed away. They ran that for many years until Clyde fell from a roof and was severely disabled. They sold the property and moved to a smaller home until Clyde passed away. Arline then moved to Charlotte to be near her son, Clyde Jr. and her grandchildren. After his death in 1984, she moved to Florida to be near her daughter. Arline passed away two months past her 100th birthday. She is survived by 10 grandchildren and 20+ great grandchildren. Arline had a deep religious faith and a very strong stubborn streak. She was a devout Catholic and told this story to her grand daughter when she found out the child was going to marry a Quaker. When Clyde first proposed to her she said no. He was not Catholic and back then Catholics did not marry outside the faith. He asked her several more times and each time she refused. When he asked her why, she explained that while he was a Christian, he was not Catholic and thus she couldn't marry him. He went away and she thought she had lost him. She had not. He had left to educate himself on Catholicism, take the classes required by the church and upon completing them, joined the Catholic church. Then he proposed to Arline again and this time she accepted his proposal. ( Side note: The grand daughter told Arline that was a beautiful story - and then went and married her Quaker love without requiring he convert to Catholicism and they were married 30+ years.) Arline was the daughter of Catherine Cecilia Frances Higgins and Frank Guard Lillyman. She loved her mother dearly but had few memories of her father. He was a veterinarian who was kicked in the head by a horse when she was 11 yrs old. His personality changed and one day he wandered away and never returned. Many years later, Arline's son was in the military for World War II and kept being mistaken for Colonel Lillyman. He knew it was not one of his cousins so he investigated. It turned out that Arline's father had resettled in California, married and had another family. Colonel Frank Lewis Lillyman (first paratrooper in Normandy) was her half brother and that was who her son was being mistaken for. Arline spent her late teenage years as a companion to an elderly weathly 'Aunt'. No one could recall her saying who the aunt was, but we know she was Irish so she could not have been from the Lillyman side of the family. There is some speculation it was Bridget McIntire Hern, who would have been her grand aunt and who Arline is listed on the census with in 1920. Arline used to scold her grandchildren if they only poured the tea cups half full. She would say "that's an English cup of tea" with the insinuation not being a nice one. She said it was something she learned from her time serving her Aunt who apparently was full Irish and had some resentment toward the English.
