Armand Wenzel Brown was born Dec. 22, 1915, in rural Akron, to Grant and Viola (Clarey) Brown. He attended Adaville country school and graduated from Akron High School in 1934. He played semi-pro baseball with teams in River Sioux, Hawarden and Akron from the 1930s through the early 1950s. He married Ruby Tucker in 1937. They had two children. He worked as a self-employed trucker, owned and operated a commercial corn sheller and assisted his father with farming. The couple owned and operated the Adaville country store from 1945 until 1953. He took over the family farm following his father's death in 1957. He married Virginia Smith on March 22, 1963. They celebrated their 40th anniversary this year. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and trapper throughout his life. Hunting was his passion, he especially liked to hunt ducks and geese in the fall and coyotes and foxes in the winter. He was a Class A horseshoe player. He won more than 50 horseshoe tournaments and continued playing on a horseshoe team until this year, when he became ill with cancer. He had a keen sense of humor and like to tell jokes. He always was quick to show his appreciation for kindnesses shown to him. He attended Adaville E.U.B. Church, which became Adaville United Methodist Church. He was baptized in the Methodist faith. He and his wife attended Immanuel Lutheran Church after they retired from farming and moved into Akron. Survivors include his wife, Virginia; a son and his wife, Larry and Rose Brown of Omaha; a daughter and her husband, Marcene and Eldon Heeren of Akron; his twin brother, Arden Brown of Akron; five grandchildren, Lori Heeren, Douglas Heeren, Krista Heeren-Graber, Holly Brown and Steven Brown; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Wayne in childhood; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Brown. Pallbearers were Kent Brown, Mark Brown, Richard Brown, Robert Brown, Douglas Heeren, Troy Hemmelrick, Brandon Marienau and Gary Tucker. Honorary pallbearers were Donald Brundeen, Donald Feauto, John Helm, Gordon Klemme, Tom Knapp, Robert Van Wyhe and Kenneth Brown.
